Maryland State Inspections

At Full Circle Tire & Auto, we offer the best state inspection Maryland has to offer. Remember, if you have recently acquired a used vehicle, you have to obtain the Maryland Inspection Certificate within three months of the vehicle’s registration. In Maryland, vehicles must pass a bi-annual safety inspection before they can be registered or have their registration renewed. Failing to pass the safety inspection will require a re-inspection within 30 days.

Safety Inspection

To legally drive your vehicle in Maryland, you must pass the Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) every two years. You must complete this test after you have received your Maryland Inspection Certificate. You should receive an e-mail 11 weeks before your vehicle inspection due date, or you will be notified by U.S mail 6-8 weeks before the inspection date. Here at Full Circle Tire & Auto, we follow the state guidelines for each VEIP inspection. We perform the following as required by the state:

  • Gas cap test
  • On-board diagnostic (OBD) test
  • Tailpipe test (idle test)

Remember to bring your vehicle, the test notice, and/or your registration card when you come in for your inspection. When you come in for an inspection, here are some tips for the idle test. Make sure you drive your car for at least 20 minutes prior, preferably at highway speeds, to get it warmed up. When you arrive for your inspection, leave your car’s engine running. You will be instructed when to shut it off by an inspector.
